The Background
The Arcadia Group features retail names such as: Topshop, Topman, Burton, Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge. Only last week an Arcadia spokesperson rejected claims of the potential appointment of an administrator, however outlets such as Sky News now believe that such an appointment may be imminent given the company's precarious financial position.
Key Information
With 15,000 employees’ jobs at risk, the company sought to obtain a £30m loan over the previous month to deal with the impact of Coronavirus. However, it seems according to recent reports that those talks came to no avail, and that administrators from Deloitte are set to be appointed in the coming weeks. Could ‘Black Friday’ be the catalyst and saviour of the Arcadia Group or is it simply another nail in the coffin for yet another of the Great British high street retail giants? It is likely the famous brands within the group will be salvaged during insolvency proceedings, if it comes to it, but their long term futures remain in doubt.
